Electronic Resources

Training

The Library offers the following training for using electronic resources:

1. Online demonstrations

library staff will run a series of demonstrations during terms 1 and 2 which are open to all SOAS students & staff. These sessions will cover:

    1.1. General information skills such as finding material in SOAS Library, using bibliographic databases, electronic journals and finding information on the Internet. 

    1.2. Regional resources - focusing on online resources, databases, web-sites & library/archival collections for the study of the Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia, China & Inner Asia, Japan & Korea and Africa.

    1.3. Subject resources - focusing on online resources, databases, web-sites & library/archival collections for the study of various subjects taught at SOAS.

2. Small group training sessions 

on any topic or any resource (chosen by the group). These can be arranged by academic staff on behalf of their students or students may arrange a session for themselves.

3. One to one training sessions 

for postgraduate students and SOAS staff.

4. Library staff can be booked 

to come and talk to a group of students about electronic resources (as part of a course timetable). These talks will relate to the subject that the students are studying and will use examples from current reading lists.

5. Online help sheets and tutorials 

for various electronic resources.
