    An open access digital library containing 6 collections of oral and life histories, folklore, and songs from Ethiopia, Ghana, and South Africa.

  • African Writers Club
    From the British Library’s Archival Sound Recordings, this collection has over 250 hours of radio programmes broadcast in the 1960s about African literary, social and cultural affairs. It includes radio plays, literary readings, reviews, interviews, political discussions, magazine programmes and music tracks. Available to SOAS staff and students, your SOAS ID and password is needed to access the recordings.

  • British Pathe Film Archive
    Video news archive covering historical events, sport, social history and entertainment from 1896 to 1970.

  • Colonial Film: Moving Images of The British Empire
    Contains information on over 6000 films showing images of life in the British colonies with over 150 films available for viewing online.

  • Community Video Education Trust : documentary footage of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa
    Archive of multimedia and film materials relating to the history of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Provides access to a large collection of online materials relating to political parties, trade unions, and activists mostly filmed in South Africa in the 1980-1990s.

  • Lola Kenya Screen 
    Audiovisual media festival, skills development programme and marketing platform for children and youth in eastern Africa.

    Organisation promoting the development of the South African film and video industry.

  • Nollywood Film Industry and the African Diaspora in the UK
    Part of a year long pilot project to explore international marketing and reception of the Nigerian video/VCD film industry, with particular attention to its consumption in the UK.
